Mayor Jim Kenney and the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, in partnership with the Philadelphia Bar Association and with the support of several non-profit legal aid organizations, formed Take Action Philly (TAP)—an initiative united lawyers, government, community organizations, and residents to offer protection and assistance to residents in need.
TAP holds free citizenship screenings and clinics, as well as refugee adjustment of status clinics. Volunteer attorneys help eligible legal permanent residents in completing their citizenship applications and assist refugees in adjusting their legal status from refugee to legal permanent resident.
In 2017, TAP efforts helped more than 80 legal permanent residents complete their citizenship applications, and over 80 refugees adjust their status. More than 130 attorneys volunteered their time to guide residents through the complex process of applying for citizenship.
